We are currently looking for a Structures Lab Lead, this position reports to the Test Labs Manager at the Product Development Center, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and is an integral part of the Product Development team at Harley-Davidson.

This Engineering leadership position will be held accountable for delivering the following:
- Managing operations of the Structures Laboratory in support of project teams, system groups and current product issues
- Setting the vision for the development tools and techniques of Structures Lab testing (i.e. tools, processes and equipment)
- Developing and enhancing the skill sets and competencies of people within the Structures Lab
- Managing workgroup budget and resources (i.e. capital, expense, manpower)

- Leads the development of deep technical knowledge within the Structures Lab and related testing
- Provides leadership and insight into technical feasibility as well as into the design review process
- Continuous Improvement Mentor/Coach, helps drive Best Practice sharing

- Supports engineering goals
- Delegates responsibilities and empower team members to make decisions, when appropriate
- Manages performance through the PEP process

- Structures Lab vision and strategy
- Development and implementation of standardized processes and tools within the labs:
o Benchmarking
o Best practice simulation/test methods, supporting Engineering Guidelines
o Knowledge management
- Collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders (product planning, styling, project engineering, regulatory, materials, manufacturing and finance) to ensure aligned strategies and mutual support
- Engagement with motorcycle projects that ensures robust, world class designs
- Engagement with Current Product group in resolution of issues

Education Required:
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other related field. Masters degree is preferred (technical or MBA)

Experience Required:
Position requires a broad knowledge of concepts, methods and terminology as well as substantial hands on experience producing high value measurable results on complex projects within the following areas:
- Test instrumentation (i.e. strain gages, accelerometer, thermocouples and custom transducers)
- Test type evaluation (development, durability, certification)
- Analysis of test data to provide decision ready information
- Design solution testing recommendation

Additionally, knowledge of concepts, methods and terminology with moderate hands on experience is highly desired in the following areas:
- Advanced test method development (RTLC)
- Data acquisition systems and techniques
- Laboratory best practice knowledge (i.e. calibration, maintenance and documentation)
- Motorcycle chassis and powertrain systems knowledge
- FRACAS experience
- Familiarity with servohydraulic and electrodynamic test equipment
