The Product Development Purchasing Manager leads a team to ensure timely and effective supplier process development for new components and sub-systems in support of PAC new product development. This includes coaching of both internal and external stakeholders in the utilization of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools and techniques. High levels of communication between engineering, purchasing and suppliers from the early stages of the product development process through launch. Provide support to all stakeholders throughout the supply chain with process or quality issues, driving quick resolution to ensure successful launch. Requires the use of influential leadership to guide, encourage, and support the development of others by transferring skill, knowledge and experience. The incumbent will demonstrate solid team leadership skills and is regarded as a technical expert, remaining up-to-date on the technological innovations and changes in industry. The role is responsible for the transition of materials and suppliers from pre-development into the execution phase of product development. Tracks and communicates the overall performance of PDP and new model suppliers performance through the product development process. Responsible for the completion of manufacturing feasibility analysis and manufacturing process development in support of new product development and for the leadership and execution of APQP in support of new product development.
The position requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Management or related degree. Preferred: Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma Certification.
A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated performance in technical competencies of procurement, engineering and/or finance are required. Experience in plant operations is desired. Requires the experience of leading at least one successful continuous improvement project, while demonstrating effective project management skills. The candidate must have strong knowledge and experience in the production and procurement of components and systems, preferably within an automotive or motorcycle manufacturing environment. The candidate must be able to travel to suppliers, conferences, other H-D facilities, etc., as necessary. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of concurrent product and process development techniques, cost management tools, and supply chain management, preferably through contribution to new product launches. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of operations techniques including but not limited to statistical operator control (SOC), just in time (JIT) manufacturing, bench-marking, and other quality and continuous improvement tools. Additionally, the candidate should have a good working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet software. Requires demonstrated communication skills, clear articulate speech, good listening skills and the ability to generate clear concise written documentation. Must be capable of directing external support staff and outside agencies. The ability to influence through indirect authority is essential. It is highly desirable for the person filling this position to have motorcycle riding experience and knowledge in the area of
Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories.
